Its delicious flavour while staying healthy at the same time!
Bulalo is a Filipino beef soup made from bone marrow and beef shanks. It’s one of the most popular soups in the Philippines and can be found in most restaurants. What makes bulalo so special is the unique flavour that the beef marrow gives to the soup. It’s a bit salty but incredibly delicious and comforting. This super sabaw has been around for a long time, and bulalo is often considered the Filipino counterpart to the Vietnamese Pho. You can add any vegetable you like – from spinach or kang-kong leaves and string beans (sitaw) to okra and water chestnuts (kastanyas). This gives the soup plenty of different textures and flavours, making it even more delicious and a favourite among Filipinos. So if you’re looking for a sour but tasty soup, give sinigang a try! It’s one of the most popular Filipino soups, and for a good reason – it’s delicious!
Beef lauya is beef brisket or shank slowly cooked in a ginger-based broth until fork tender. The soup is usually sayote or chayote, bokchoy, cabbage, and patis. Patis or fish sauce adds sourness and saltiness, while white rice makes beef lauya even more filling! This particular soup has Chinese origins but is adapted to the Filipino palate. Beef lauya, sometimes spelled as beef nilaga, which means beef stewed in broth or boiled beef, is a Filipino beef dish found on menus of most local restaurants. VEGETABLE SOUP/UTAN BISAYA
Soup is a big deal in the Philippines. There are so many different kinds of soup, and each one is packed with flavour and goodness. If you’re looking for a delicious, hearty soup that will warm your soul, you need to try vegetable soup or utan bisaya. What makes these soups so unique? First of all, they are made with fresh vegetables. Hearty & healthy vegetables such as string beans, eggplant, okra or ladies finger and bitter gourd plus some cuttlefish slices to add more texture and flavour (optional) that tastes so good that you can eat it on its own without any rice. This means that you get all the nutrients and fibre your body needs. Secondly, they’re flavoured with aromatic herbs and spices. This gives them an incredible depth of flavour, which is irresistible. Finally, both soups are simmered to allow the flavours to develop fully. Filipinos that live in the province used to cook this special soup as their main dish as all the ingredients are easily accessible- fresh from the backyard!
