1. Lumpia Shanghai
Lumpia in English translates as “spring roll,” but lumpia shanghai has an additional meaning too: “pleasure.” Pinoys know the dish as one that brings them happiness and pleasure, not only because of how tasty it is but also because it’s a Pinoy-style Chinese recipe. Shanghai lumpia offers Filipino something different from their traditional favourites in terms of ingredients; instead of pork or chicken, ground meat and vegetables are wrapped in a spring roll skin and fried to perfection before serving on top of white rice. Pinoys enjoy the bite of Lumpia Shanghai because of its Pinoy flavour, texture, and taste, making them happy and giving them pleasure every time they eat it.
2. Pinoy Style Spaghetti
I feel like every Filipino has a different theory on how to make the perfect spaghetti. Some will say that it needs ketchup, others swear by tomato sauce, some use extra garlic and onion, while some add sugar or salt for flavour. I’m not sure what’s up with all these theories, but as long as they’re good at cooking them, who am I to judge?
An exciting thing about Pinoy style spaghetti is the toppings. When I was a kid, my mom used to put eggplant in her dish, and this would be placed on top of the noodles and sprinkled with grated cheese or Parmesan. It’s not unusual for some people to add mushrooms too. However, most Filipinos will go for banana ketchup, making it taste like an exotic twist!
I’m sure that if we asked 100 different Pinoys how they cook their spaghetti, all 100 would probably give us a different answer, but at least one thing stays true—every Filipino loves eating them hot off the stove.”
3. Pork Humba
Pinoy Handaan Menu dishes are iconic to Filipino cuisine. Pork Humba is a Pinoy favourite dish that can be found in any local restaurants or home.
What Pinoys enjoy about Pork Humba is the sauce. The Pinoy uses a whole head of garlic and onion with salt, pepper, soy sauce, calamansi lime juice to create an irresistible flavour that you can’t help but want more!
4. White or Garlic Rice
For Pinoy handaan, the two main side dishes are white or garlic rice. In Filipino culture, people usually eat white rice with every meal and sometimes they will mix it with a house soup or vegetables for a healthier option. Rice is also eaten by itself because Filipinos enjoy plain rice so much that some of them have it just on their own too! On the other hand, garlic rice is cooked in butter and minced garlic to make this delicious dish. Therefore, the Pinoy handaan dish is usually served with a side of either white or garlic rice.
5. Chicken Adobo
Chicken Adobo: A Pinoy classic! This savoury Filipino dish made out of chicken and seasoned with soy sauce, vinegar, water or stock usually has ginger (lots!), black peppercorns, lots more aromatics like cloves, etc. There’s no hard-fast rule, and everyone has their way of cooking it, making Pinoy Adobo a dish that’s constantly evolving.
Chicken Adobo Recipe: The Pinoy way to cook Chicken Adobo is by simmering the meat in soy sauce, water or stock mixed with vinegar until tender before adding other ingredients like garlic cloves (lots!), black peppercorns, and bay leaves. You want your result to have a nice balance between sweet, sour and salty! And don’t forget about those aromatics–sliced onions are often added, while some also add ginger.
Chicken Adobo Pinoy Style: Pinoys have many different ways to cook Chicken Adobo, and we’re not sure if there is even one right way! But, the Pinoy classic flavour profile for this dish is light on sourness with hints of sweetness from soy sauce and vinegar; mixed in saltiness from black pepper along with aromatics like garlic cloves (lots!), bay leaves, onions–this depends on your personal preference. So try it out and see what works for you!
6. Bistek Tagalog
Pinoy bistek is traditionally served as a lunch dish. Bisteks are usually pan-fried and cooked in tomato sauce with onions, calamansi, garlic, soy sauce, or patis. The Pinoys love their bistek Tagalog so much that they put it in everything!
Pinoy beef takes centre stage, and Filipino dishes are always served with it. Pinoys would say that this is the Pinoy way of eating, to “eat by sight”, meaning they eat what they see in front of them! Pinoy handaan is Pinoy home style cooking. Pinoy bistek or called bistek Tagalog is a Filipino home-style cooking. Pinoys love to eat by sight, so Pinoy dishes are always served with Pinoy beef!
7. Lutong Pinoy Fried Chicken
Pinoy Fried Chicken is a must in every Filipinos menu. It’s a Pinoy classic, being that it is one of the Pinoy dishes we’ve had since our childhood. It pairs well with rice and some side veggies for a complete meal.
Lutong Pinoy Fried Chicken is best when dipped in banana ketchup which gives an added sweetness to balance out its spiciness while adding more flavour at the same time! So next time when you arrive in a Filipino handaan, don’t be surprised if you see lots of fried chicken on the table with mango juice.
8. Lechon Kawali Oven
Lechon Kawali is a Pinoy dish that has been around since the old times. It’s an oven-roasted, crispy pork belly cooked in its own fat and marinated with garlic, pepper, and then flavoured with salt or soy sauce. If you’re looking to experience what Filipinos eat during celebrations like Christmas or New Year, this is one Pinoy food you can’t miss – The Lechon Kawali.
9. Pancit Bihon
Pancit bihon is a Filipino noodle dish that is characteristically served with shrimp, pork or chicken. It consists of rice noodles and vegetables such as onion, carrots, green beans, cabbage tossed in soy sauce cooked by boiling, then topped off with fried fish balls or small pieces of roast pork. The dish is topped with a generous amount of sweet and sour sauce, giving it a distinct taste.
Pancit bihon can be made vegetarian by substituting the meat for vegetables only or with both veggies and tofu. It’s served warm, but you may do it cold as well if desired. Enjoy your noodles!
10. Lechon Manok
Pinoys are known for their love of Lechon Manok Pinoy style. They make sure that every dish they cook is always in Pinoy Handaan Menu, and this recipe has a wow twist!

11. Lechon Baboy
The Pinoys love their Lechon and post it to Facebook. This is true for the Philippines and abroad, with many overseas Filipinos longing to taste the crispy and succulent moist roasted pig on a stick that they grew up eating back home in Pinas.
Lechon Baboy is usually made with a whole pig that has been roasted over charcoal. Pinoys love to eat their crispy skin and savour the meat from inside, all wrapped up in banana leaves. A Pinoy will not hesitate to say that this dish provides comfort food for them!
